Where you store fat is not random.

I coach people in McKinney every week who are frustrated with one specific area. The belly. The arms. The lower stomach that will not move no matter what they do.

Here is the truth first. You cannot spot reduce fat. No exercise burns fat off one area by itself.

But where you store fat is a signal. Each area has drivers behind it. When you fix the driver and lose fat overall, the area that bothers you follows. Here are the 6 areas I get asked about the most, and what actually works for each.

1. Belly Fat

This is the dangerous one. Belly fat wraps around your organs, not just under your skin, and it is tied to more health problems than fat anywhere else on your body.

The biggest drivers I see: alcohol, processed sugar, poor sleep, and stress that never shuts off.

How to train: Lift weights, walk every day, and do hard conditioning once or twice a week. The combination moves belly fat faster than any one of them alone.

How to eat: Cut the alcohol and the processed sugar first. Build meals around protein and whole foods. Most people do not need a complicated diet. They need to remove the two things driving the problem.

2. Face Fat

Most of what people call face fat is two things: overall body fat, and water.

High sodium plus alcohol makes your body hold fluid, and it shows up in your face before anywhere else. That is why your face can look different after one weekend.

How to train: There is no magic face exercise that matters more than losing fat overall. Lift, walk, and be consistent.

How to eat: Cook at home for two weeks, lower the sodium, and drop the alcohol. The water comes off fast. The rest comes off as your body fat drops.

3. Hips and Thighs

For women, this is a normal and healthy storage pattern. It is also usually the last place to change, which is exactly why it frustrates people.

How to train: Build the muscle underneath it. Squats, deadlifts, lunges, and hip thrusts, three times a week. I have watched members whose jeans fit completely different after three months of lifting while the scale barely moved. Muscle changes the shape. The scale does not tell that story.

How to eat: Protein at every meal and a small calorie deficit. No crash diets. Crash dieting makes this area softer, not smaller, because you lose muscle along with fat.

4. The Back of the Arms

Loose arms are usually a muscle problem before they are a fat problem. If the triceps have never been trained, there is nothing firm under the skin, so everything hangs.

How to train: Train triceps directly, not just biceps. Overhead extensions hit the long head of the triceps, which is the part that fills out the back of the arm. Presses help too.

How to eat: Protein matters most here because the goal is building muscle while you lose fat. Get close to a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight each day.

5. Chest and Upper Back Fat

For men, this is usually low muscle in the chest and shoulders combined with body fat that is simply too high. If it is still there when you are otherwise lean, get your testosterone checked by your doctor. That is a medical question, not a training one.

For women, upper body fat tends to show around the upper back and bra line.

How to train: Men, incline presses to build the upper chest. Women, rows and pulldowns to build the upper back. Muscle fills the area out and changes how it looks as fat comes off.

How to eat: A calorie deficit and enough protein. Same answer as most areas, because the deficit is what removes the fat. Training decides what is left underneath.

6. The Lower Belly

This is the last fat to leave for almost everybody. The blood flow is poor, the fat is stubborn, and it holds on until overall body fat gets genuinely low.

How to train: No amount of ab work burns it off. Everything has to be consistent at once: your lifts, your daily steps, your sleep. This is precision territory.

How to eat: Track honestly and keep the loss slow and steady. Fast cuts fall apart at this stage. Patient ones finish.

And here is the honest part most trainers will not say. Getting lean enough to erase the lower belly is optional. Your health does not require it. Some people decide it is worth it. Plenty should not bother. Know which one you are before you chase it.

Stop Waiting for January

Everyone waits for January. That is why January fails. Crowds, pressure, and motivation that lasts two weeks.

The people who win start when it is quiet. They build proof, one kept promise at a time, and they walk into the new year already moving while everyone else is starting over.

If you are in the McKinney area and you want help with any of these six areas, come train with us. Your first 2 sessions at R&G Fitness are free, and we will build the plan around the area that bothers you most.
